Irons
Irons are typically the hardest Clubs in the bag to master especially the longer Irons, but with a bit of practise and patience it can be done. Obviously buying the right Irons for you helps a great deal; there are two different types available. Blade The blade Iron as the name suggest has flat blade type of head which has a small sweet spot in the centre of the head, which must be hit dead centre to ensure a long straight shot, if a ball is hit off centre this will result in a shorter less accurate shot. Cavity Back Also know as Perimeter Weighted, is much more forgiving because it has a larger sweet spot meaning shots hit off centre tend to fly straighter and longer, this type of Club would benefit the beginner or higher handicapped Golfer. The most popular Irons are Ben Sayers, Callaway, and Cleveland. Drivers These are the Clubs that everyone gets excited about, There is no greater feeling than pinging a ball with a Driver and seeing it sail down the fairway. We recommend going for a Driver with a 460cc Head as this has the largest sweet spot for maximum distance and accuracy, We would suggest that a beginner opt for a Driver with at least 10.5% degrees of loft or higher as this generates more height and is easier to hit the ball straight, the more proficient the player the less loft on the Club is required. It’s also important to think about the shaft Flex when buying a Driver; the main flexes are Lady, Regular, Stiff and Senior. In general terms the stiffer the shaft the more control you have over the shot, if you are a beginner then the best shaft would be a regular shaft as this gives a good compromise between distance and accuracy. Hybrid Clubs Hybrid Clubs or sometimes known as utility Clubs have grown in popularity over the past few years, these clubs are basically a cross between an Iron and a Club combining the benefits of both IE control and forgiveness, they have a low centre of gravity along with high club head speed giving added height to a shot allowing many Golfers to get out of trouble with ease. They have become an integral part of many players clubs from beginners to Professional alike. Most hybrid clubs are available to replace the 2-3 and 4 Irons (generally the most difficult clubs to hit). Popular Hybrid Clubs are TaylorMade, Nike, Calloway, Fazer, and Cleveland. Putters The Putter is a Club that many Golfers tend to ignore but it is a Club which has gone high tech recently. There is more choice of Putter than any other Club, so choosing the right one can sometimes seem impossible. The best advice is to try as many as possible, because with a putter more than any Club it’s all about feel. Many good Golf suppliers these days have an area put aside in store for you to try out the different types available it’s well worth spending some time doing this before buying. The most popular ones are Ping, Optica, Cobra, FisherGolf and Mizuno. Golf Balls It’s easy to ignore this but a decent Golf Ball can dramatically improve your game. There are three different types available. One Piece This is the most basic of ball and generally used by beginners and is sometimes used on driving rangers. The ball is soft and has less distance than other balls on offer. Two Piece This is the ball that most ordinary players use because it offers a combination of good distance and durability at an affordable price. Three Piece This Ball is typically used by the more experienced player because it offers greater feel and control for the Golfer over the two Piece ball, this is due to it being slightly softer and having a high spin rate. |
